Enter the world of John Reynolds. A senior intelligence operative with a strange and strained past. Now operating as a puppet master, he seems to be pursuing his own agenda. Off the reservation. What is his grand plan? Why has he gathered three dozen top operatives at a remote lodge in the dead of winter. Why has he deployed squadrons of Delta Force around the lodge? Apparently, only Reynolds knows the answers to these questions. Of course, there is one other, but he doesn’t speak.
Three dozen top intelligence operatives and officers are called to a retreat in the northern Minnesota woods during the dead of winter. When one of them begins to suspect that something is about to go very wrong, he reaches out to allies. They share his apprehension. Something is going to happen. People are going to die. But none of could anticipate what comes to pass.

Fictional Suspense Writing At Its Best. The book is a continuation of an earlier series by this author that I found to be great reading if you like intrigue mixed with a little fantasy. The relationships between the human characters and their animal partners is a lot of fun, and provides an interesting twist to the traditional stories of this kind. The storylines themselves are very well crafted. “Response” continues the series, brings back some of the earlier characters, introduces new ones, and maintains the writing style I think is so interesting. A really good read.
A unique kind of thriller; impossible to put down. This is an impressive page turner. Great character development here; the type that always makes a great book better than it’s movie. Detailed without being overdone. Great fun. Earl Smith’s story is well written and thoughtful. Believable and intelligent, at times it made me wonder if it really is non-fiction (and I don’t consider myself very conspiracy prone). Can’t wait for more from Mr. Smith!
The threats are real. Dr Smith has a sharp mind prodding his reader to recognize both the mystery and the opportunity. Can you solve it? Keep turning the pages and hope he writes another great read.
Spy-thriller with well-written characters. If you like thrillers and spy novels, but often find them lacking in literary terms, and specially in their cartoonist characters devoid of humanity and depth, I would expect you to enjoy this book as much as I did
